Provision is proud to announce that we have earned national recognition for our Culture of Care. On September 8, 2020, Provision CARES Proton Therapy Nashville was awarded the distinguished 2020 Press Ganey “Guardian of Excellence Award” for exceptional Patient Experience in Outpatient Oncology.
WHAT IS THE ‘GUARDIAN OF EXCELLENCE AWARD’?
The “Guardian of Excellence Award” is an honor based on direct feedback from actual patients, which only serves to bolster Provision’s position as a patient-focused cancer treatment center. This annual prestigious award recognizes and honors medical providers who consistently sustain performance in the top 5% for each designated reporting period over the course of the award year.
Press Ganey is the healthcare industry leader in measuring and improving delivery of care. This award means Provision will be recognized and distinguished among local area providers and top cancer centers across the country.
“The key is delivering sustainable levels of care, which requires a dedicated and collaborative effort on behalf of the entire Care Team,” said Elizabeth Vanzo, Director of Patient Experience for Provision. “It begins with our Culture of Care that respects the dignity and value of every person.”
WHAT IS THE CULTURE OF CARE?
The Culture of Care is at the center of everything Provision does. At its heart, it is a philosophy that encourages employees to respect the dignity and value of every person. In practice, it has become the standard of excellence our employees embrace to make sure each and every patient, family member, caregiver, visitor or co-worker who walks through our doors feels “cared about.”
This culture is so important to Provision that we included it in our name, “Provision CARES Proton Therapy.” It’s a constant reminder that we serve as a role model for the patient experience in the healthcare industry by upholding our five core values:
- Collaboration – Working together to strive for excellence
- Accountability – Holding ourselves and others to the highest standard of responsibility
- Respect – Respecting the dignity and value of every person
- Excellence – Providing superior quality and distinction in all that we do
- Service – Sharing our God-given resources in generous and meaningful ways
COMBINING TOP TECHNOLOGY WITH EXCEPTIONAL CARE
As the only cancer treatment centers in Middle and East Tennessee offering proton therapy, Provision CARES Proton Therapy has treated more than 3,500 cancer patients since 2014.
Proton therapy is one of the world’s most advanced cancer treatments. It precisely targets a cancerous tumor and avoids unnecessary radiation to surrounding areas. This lowers the risk of damage to nearby healthy tissue and vital organs, and reduces side effects, complications and the risk of developing another cancer.
Dr. James Gray, Radiation Oncologist, Medical Director of Provision Nashville, and a partner with Tennessee Oncology, says a positive patient experience is a key factor in the overall success of a patient’s cancer treatment.
“It is an honor to receive such high marks from our patients, and a privilege to be part of this distinguished team, that delivers top-level care to our patients and their families every day,” said Dr. Gray. “We care about our patients beyond their treatment, and it’s rewarding to know they feel and acknowledge this care.”
PUTTING THE CULTURE OF CARE TO WORK
Our staff members embrace the Culture of Care as a way of life. We believe no matter what title you hold or what your daily responsibilities are, each employee is accountable for respecting the dignity and value of every person, which contributes to our ultimate goal of collaboration that delivers the best possible patient experience.
“Respecting every person includes all staff here, from maintenance to I.T., the concierges, finance people, nurses, therapists and receptionists,” said Dr. Robert Lavey, Radiation Oncologist at Provision CARES Proton Therapy Knoxville. “When they’re happy and take pride in their workplace, they share that warmth and enthusiasm with their patients. When I meet with patients during their course of therapy, they almost inevitably say how great everyone here makes them feel.”
Now, amidst a global pandemic, when many cancer patients are feeling even more fear and anxiety than usual, Provision has emphasized the importance of upholding the Culture of Care even more.
“Our patients are already facing a huge battle with cancer,” said Laura Cutler, who works in the Medical Physics department at Provision CARES Proton Therapy Nashville. “With COVID-19 creating so much uncertainty, it’s so important for us to be a source of stability and comfort during these challenging times.”
Vanzo agrees, and as she leads the charge to deliver an outstanding patient experience, she says Provision is up for the challenge. “Provision’s Culture of Care is something that you feel. It is the sincere desire to just bring happiness to someone,” Vanzo says. “It is so important to uphold the spirit of that culture because, right now, the one thing that people need is to feel cared about. And that is what Provision does.”
