Raising awareness and celebrating life during National Cancer Survivors Month

June is National Cancer Survivors Month and each year, on the first Sunday of June, we celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day!  With nearly 17 million people in the U.S. living with and beyond cancer – and 43 million cancer survivors worldwide – we all know someone whose life has been touched by cancer.

Naturally, this is a very special event for our Provision family. Since 2014, more than 5,500 patients have been treated in centers developed by Provision. We are so grateful to have been a part of each of their journeys. In honor of them, we wanted to share this blog that includes more information on cancer survivorship and how you can join in on the June activities.

Provision celebrates #WeWhoCurie on International Day of Medical Physics

Celebrating the role of medical physics in patient safety

Each year on November 7th, we celebrate the birthday of one of the great minds of science, a pioneer in the medical physics world, and an inspiration for women around the world – Marie Curie.

The International Day of Medical Physics falls on Madame Curie’s birthday, as does another movement to recognize women who excel in a historically male-driven field – #WeWhoCurie. On this day, Provision CARES Proton Therapy wants to recognize our own medical physicists, who play a vital role in keeping patients safe, as well as all the amazing women who are part of our team.

Provision takes healthcare safety and security very seriously

‘Healthcare Safety & Security Week’ highlights Provision’s commitment to patients

Each year during the second week of October, healthcare facilities around the country recognize “Healthcare Security & Safety Week.” This is a chance to send our appreciation to all the professionals out there who work hard to make sure the facilities we rely on for our healthcare needs are safe and secure. This includes everything from the physical safety of patients and staff to virtual security of medical records and personal health information.

Provision is 100% committed to the health and safety of our patients and staff, as well as the security of their private information. Not only have we implemented robust safety policies and training, but we’ve even designated several staff members to serve on our dedicated Safety Committee.

Provision Healthcare at AAPM

The American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), recently celebrated their 60thanniversary! This year’s conference was held in Nashville, Tennessee from July 29th – August 2nd, and Provision Healthcare was an exhibitor. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet medical physicists from around the globe, introducing them to our business and our rich history in innovation.

Provision CARES Proton Therapy Center and RaySearch Laboratories also hosted an exclusive tour on July 30th at the Nashville proton therapy center. The tour showcased Provision Healthcare’s ProNova SC360 Proton Therapy System, along with RaySearch products RayCare and RayStation used for treatment planning at the new center, which is scheduled to begin treating patients later this year! Approximately 75 guests toured the treatment rooms at the facility, enjoyed software demonstrations by RaySearch, and were treated to a guest reception in the lobby.

Summer Camps for Cancer Support for Kids (& Kids at Heart)

For many kids (and kids at heart), summer camps are one of the best parts of summer and are often a normal part of childhood.  As most families who have experienced cancer can attest, normalcy during cancer treatment is extremely important. However, when a cancer diagnosis affects a child or parent in the family, summer camp might not be an option due to a child’s medical needs or the lack of extra finances to pay for traditional summer camps. Fortunately, there are many summer camps for cancer support specifically designed for children with cancer, siblings, or even the whole family. The camp experience can provide positive benefits that will last long after summer ends. Camp attendance may help lessen feelings of anxiety, depression, or loneliness and increase self-esteem, body positivity, and coping abilities. CONTINUE READING

National Nurses Week is May 6-12

‘National Nurses Week’ honors our frontline healthcare workers

Every year from May 6-12 we celebrate National Nurses Week. It’s a week of excellence for every nurse, marking a time to acknowledge accomplishments, compassionate patient care, and professionalism for the nursing society. The conclusion of the week is marked by National Nurses Day on May 12, honoring Florence Nightingale, who is considered the mother of nursing. Nightingale was born on May 12, 1820, and was the innovator of modern nursing. It was through her teaching, compassion, leadership, and influence that the world of nursing evolved into what it is today.

Provision heads to ASTRO

At the premiere conference for radiation oncology, Provision will unveil plans and a progress report for expansion and release results of a patient survey that confirms proton therapy’s benefit for cancer patients.

The annual meeting for the American Society for Radiation Oncology, or ASTRO, begins Sunday in Boston. The conference attracts more than 10,000 attendees from the radiation oncology community—from physicians to instrument makers.
