Ben Wilkinson, MD, Medical Director of Provision CARES Proton Therapy Knoxville welcomes Robert S. Lavey, M.D., M.P.H. to the Provision CARES team.

Dr. Lavey has been board-certified in Radiation Oncology since 1988.  He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and earned his Doctorate in Medicine from Stanford University. He completed his residency in radiation oncology at Duke University and was awarded National Institutes of Health Postdoctoral Fellowships in the Stanford University Department of Medicine and the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health.

Educational and Cognitive Late Effects of Cancer Survivors

Cognitive health is just as important as physical health, especially following cancer treatment. Depending on your diagnosis you may have had chemotherapy or radiation, both of which may affect memory, concentration, or the ability to perform well in school or at work.  These side effects may last for a short time or they may persist for many years following treatment.  Additionally, it is important to know that you may not notice signs of side effects from your treatment until a while after treatment has ended. Side effects which occur a few months or even years after treatment are called late effects.

Provision Dosimetrists Win Big with Protons

In honor of National Medical Dosimetrist’s Day, Provision CARES Proton Therapy Knoxville wants to call attention to recent accomplishments of members of our medical dosimetry team. This spring, medical dosimetrists from all over the world participated in a competition to create the best dosimetry plan to treat a specified breast cancer patient.  The Provision dosimetrists’ submissions were awarded top scores.

Provision Healthcare at AAPM

The American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), recently celebrated their 60thanniversary! This year’s conference was held in Nashville, Tennessee from July 29th – August 2nd, and Provision Healthcare was an exhibitor. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet medical physicists from around the globe, introducing them to our business and our rich history in innovation.

Provision CARES Proton Therapy Center and RaySearch Laboratories also hosted an exclusive tour on July 30th at the Nashville proton therapy center. The tour showcased Provision Healthcare’s ProNova SC360 Proton Therapy System, along with RaySearch products RayCare and RayStation used for treatment planning at the new center, which is scheduled to begin treating patients later this year! Approximately 75 guests toured the treatment rooms at the facility, enjoyed software demonstrations by RaySearch, and were treated to a guest reception in the lobby.

Pediatric Art Therapy at Provision

Provision CARES Proton Therapy Knoxville has been treating a growing number of pediatric patients over the past few months. To help children feel more comfortable while they are here for treatments, the pediatric team hosted Provision’s first Pediatric Art Therapy session on July 24th.

Teeing Off for Cancer Patients – Bill Williamson Memorial Golf Tournament 2018

The 4th Annual Bill Williamson Memorial Golf Tournament was held on Friday, June 15th at Avalon Golf & Country Club. Proceeds from the tournament benefit Provision CARES Foundation which serves more than 1,600 families battling cancer per year in East Tennessee.

The tournament had both morning and afternoon rounds, was completely sold out, and had more than 210 golfers.

Approximately $50,000 in net proceeds will be raised as a result of this great tournament. (more…)
